Promoting America's Urban Frontier

Overall, we covered two states plus China? And 5 metropolitan areas - Butler, Erie, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Youngstown. Where are the Cleveland folks??

Some people interpreted their neighborhood as where they live or work or shop. Some people interpreted their neighborhood as who they are walking with. Some people interpreted their neighborhood as where they used to live. Some people were "late" for this "homework" assignment, so if you missed some here's your chance to catch up. I especially liked the uses of google maps (and add-ons like mapmyrun) as well as taking advantage of flickr.

Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh and Area

1) Pittsburgh's South Side - the first entry posted - very thorough photolog of the south side

2) Greenfield - a dog's eye view

3) Monroeville - unfortunately no zombies appear in this walk

4) Allentown - my post about the gritty upper-belly of Pittsburgh

5) Crawling the Burgh

6) Squirrel Hill - fun with pushing around your children

7) Downtown - a tribute and neighborhoodwalk in one

8) Bellevue - here's to getting to know a new neighborhood

9) Point Breeze - a glimpse of fall

10) Friendship - another walk another cute-as-a-button dog

11) Millvale - proves your neighborhood is what you make of it.

Butler Area

12) Butler - a heartfelt farewell

13) Butler - a glimpse into an idyllic seeming small town

14) Butler - gargoyles and pumpkins oh my

Erie

15) Erie - makes me sad that I've never seen the giant acorn.

Philly

16) Philly - Does Philly count as rustbelt? View the walk and decide for yourself.

OHIO

Youngstown

17) Youngstown - lovely pictures of a new-to-me city

18) Beautiful Houses - and affordable too!

China?

19) Great wall - yes, our rustbelters do travel.

Mentions

20) Blogger - this blogger did the effort an honorable mention

In summary, bravo to everyone who participated and showed us something new. Hopefully next month, we'll have even more participators. Please comment if I've missed anyone.

Save the Date: December 11. Neighborhoodwalk - public artwalk.

Pick a piece of public art and tell us why you picked it. Do you love it? Did you make it? Do you hate it and hope it gets torn down? This "assignment" should be easier than the neighborhoodwalk. You can even "cheat" and take a picture from flickr (respecting the creative commons license of course.)

Spread the word.

I did a Neighborhoodwalk too -- on Nov 11, 2008. Mine was dedicated to veterans, as 11-11 was Veterans Day.
